Teletherapy is here and here to stay. There have been numerous training sessions for individual teletherapy. What about teletherapy groups? In this presentation, I will explain what key steps one should consider before starting a group. This presentation will be broken down into two parts. Part 1 will highlight administrative considerations when creating a teletherapy group. For instance, what should one look for when choosing the technology platform for an online group? What ethical and legal considerations are needed for group teletherapy? Part 2 will highlight how to manage the group once members have been added. I will provide all participants with a list of key questions and tips to help increase their level of comfort with administering and facilitating teletherapy groups. Time will be made at the end for questions and answers.

Tiffany Howard, Ed.S, LPC, BC-TMH
Tiffany Howard is a licensed professional counselor and a nationally certified counselor. She has a B.A degree in Psychology from Winthrop University and an Education Specialist degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of South Carolina. She is a Board-Certified Telemental Health provider and also a trained facilitator of the Nationally and Internationally renowned Prepare/Enrich Inventories.
Tiffany is a staff counselor & the Coordinator of Web-based Services at a large university. In her role, she not only provides individual, group, and couples counseling services; she also oversees, coordinates and acts as the main consultant of telehealth services. These services include but are not limited to assisting in the full implementation and management of Therapy Assistance Online, TAO (an online platform that provides coping skills and teletherapy services). Most recently, Tiffany has been tasked with leading the development, training, and implementation of the counseling center’s rapid shift to sole teletherapy services given the COVID-19 pandemic.
When she is not consulting, counseling, and researching more about telehealth, she is working within her private practice, Unity’s Essence, LLC, providing similar services for the community. Tiffany has been featured as the subject matter expert on several platforms including podcasts, multiple news and radio outlets, the Education Dive publication with experts in the telehealth field, and more. She has also facilitated multiple workshops in the community in an effort to support one of her favorite quotes by Maya Angelou. “You should not walk throughout life with a catcher's mitt on both hands, you need to be able to throw something back."
Tiffany embodies this quote beyond providing counseling and consultation services to the community. She along with her co-founder created a non-profit organization, Loving the Unique You. This non-profit organization is responsible for providing over $10,000 in scholarships to minority women across the nation. “Treat people like you want to be treated.” She believes in the golden rule. When Tiffany has time, she is creating fundraisers and vising her family’s home country in the Dominican Republic in hopes of supporting her grandmother’s elderly home and upcoming orphanage.
Through Tiffany’s education, experience in the clinical field, training as a BC-TMH provider and life experiences through community service; she has seen what technology can do. She has seen relief in student’s faces when they realize they don’t have to drive to campus in the midst of a busy semester to engage in services. She’s heard about the relief students currently feel when realizing they can still receive counseling services in the midst of the current pandemic. She’s seen the smile on her grandmother’s face while video chatting with family miles away. The relief and the smile are both due to technology. Tiffany Howard plans to continue her education and training in hopes of spreading more smiles across the world.
