Wyoming LPC and MFT Renewal Information

Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) in Wyoming must renew their licenses every two (2) years, with the deadline falling on or before the licensee’s birthday. Each renewal cycle requires 45 contact hours of Continuing Education (CE), including a minimum of 3 CE hours in professional ethics and 3 CE hours in suicide assessment or intervention.

CE Requirements to Be Approved as a Clinical Supervisor

To qualify as a Designated Qualified Clinical Supervisor (DQCS) in Wyoming, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists must complete formal training in clinical supervision, outlined in Chapter 18, Section 2 of the Wyoming Administrative Code. This initial requirement may be satisfied by either:

  • A graduate-level course in clinical supervision, or
  • At least three (3) contact hours of continuing education (CE) in clinical supervision

Please note: The Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI) provides continuing education (CE) courses only and does not offer university-level graduate coursework.

Once this initial supervision training requirement has been met, Wyoming does not impose any ongoing or renewal-specific CE requirements solely for clinical supervisors. However, supervisors must maintain an active and unrestricted LMFT license in order to remain eligible to supervise. The guidelines for this are outlined in Wyoming Administrative Code Chapter 14, Sections 3-4.

To keep an LMFT license active in Wyoming, the following continuing education requirements apply:

Total CE Hours: 45 contact hours every two (2) years, including:

  • Ethics Requirement: At least 3 contact hours in professional ethics
  • Suicide Prevention Requirement: At least 3 contact hours in suicide assessment or intervention

Note: Wyoming does not pre-approve continuing education providers. Licensees are responsible for ensuring that coursework meets Chapter 14 criteria and is relevant to their professional scope of practice.

TCI offers continuing education courses designed to support supervision training and ongoing professional development.

Please note that TCI provides continuing education (CE) courses only, not university-level training.
