Dr. Malcolm Horn, PhD, LCSW, LAC, SAP, MAC, brings decades of clinical experience and leadership in addiction treatment and counselor education. As a former state and national association president and current educator at Montana State University-Billings, Dr. Horn has both the credentials and hands-on experience to guide clinicians in developing ethical and effective tele-supervision practices.
Dr. Horn’s teaching approach is grounded in real-world experience, offering evidence-informed insights paired with highly applicable strategies. Her engaging style, deep understanding of complex behavioral health systems, and focus on practical outcomes equip learners to immediately improve their supervisory approach.
This course explores the fundamentals of ethical supervision, the nuances of transitioning to virtual platforms, and practical strategies for conducting remote supervision with fidelity to professional standards. Participants will consider the risks, benefits, and essential competencies of telesupervision, including best practices for documentation, boundary setting, and maintaining supervisory presence in virtual environments.
In this course, Dr. Horn focused on the foundational principles of effective supervision; ethical and legal considerations in telesupervision; pros and cons of using telehealth platforms for clinical supervision; strategies for fostering connection, accountability, and growth in virtual settings; and implementation of documentation and structure for remote supervisory relationships.
Instructor
Malcolm Horn-Charnesky, PhD, LCSW, LAC, SAP, MAC, started her career working with the elderly and adults with disabilities. She has over 10 years of progressive clinical experience working with the complex diagnoses that often accompany addictions and co-occurring disorders. Malcolm started working specifically with addictions in 2006 when she moved to Billings and started working at Rimrock. She coordinates the continuing education for licensed staff, ensuring they have opportunities to appropriate continuing education units to improve their skills and ability to meet the needs of clients. Malcolm also supervises and coordinates the internship program and ensures all learning objectives are met. She provides educational lectures and workshops to patients and community members and also conducts adjunctive group, family, and individual therapy.
Malcolm received her Master’s in Social Work from Walla Walla College, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is licensed by the state of Montana as an Addiction Counselor.
