Treating Eating Disorders in the Digital Age, 2-3:30pm EST
Utilizing Exposure Therapy in the Treatment of OCD: It is not uncommon for individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to have strong, aversive reactions to situations that occur in everyday life. If we understand OCD as an emotional disorder, then we should consider interventions that have demonstrated efficacy with other disorders with similar underlying mechanisms, such as generalized anxiety and panic disorders. Transdiagnostic interventions that approach, rather than avoid, emotion increase emotional tolerance and decrease the drive to use OCD rituals and behaviors as a means to manage emotional distress. This workshop will explore the rationale and application of evidence-based emotion exposure interventions for the treatment of OCD
Treating Eating Disorders in the Digital Age: Eating disorders are complex disorders that affect nearly all domains of functioning and pose an increased risk for serious medical complications and suicide. Standard treatment plans for eating disorders include a combination of psychotherapy, medical care and monitoring, nutritional counseling, and psychotropic medications -- resulting in the necessity for clinicians to possess a high level of specialized and cross-disciplinary knowledge. As such, these complex disorders require additional considerations when it comes to providing care to individuals with eating disorders via Telehealth. In addition to exploring the biopsychosocial factors associated with the development and maintenance of eating disorders, this course will include how to assess for level of care/telehealth appropriateness and how to modify standard eating disorder treatment protocols for virtual treatment.
