COVID-19 has necessitated that schools nationwide provide crucial academic and behavioral health services through telehealth. This rapid transition to a virtual academic setting has left academic and behavioral health workers with many questions about how to best support their students. This discussion will cover pertinent topics such as identifying challenges to implementing interventions in a virtual context, creating solutions for performing assessments through telehealth, and best practices for relating to stakeholders in a virtual environment. This panel will provide practical tools for those who work in academic environments to best support their students during this era of virtual learning.

Michael Cappiello, LCSW, President of National Association of Social Workers - New York State Chapter
Michael received his MSW from Hunter College School of Social Work in 2000, practiced as a psychiatric social worker in Westchester County at two university medical centers, is now a school social worker for the NYC Department of Education, and has a private practice. A member of NASW since 1998, Michael led the State’s Advocacy and Government Relations Committee and then was the Westchester Division Director. Michael holds a BA in Psychology from Hobart College and an AAS in Social Sciences from SUNY Cobleskill. He is also an active lay person in the Episcopal Church.
Michael was a staff social worker in the department of child and adolescent psychiatry at two university hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, serving families in clinics, inpatient units, and school programs. During the past 9 years he has specialized in school social work, first in a 1000-student middle school in an affluent suburb, then in an inner city special education high school for students with complex psychosocial and learning needs.
Michael’s practice focuses on assessment of family, school, and community systems to maximize positive experiences in learning.
Elizabeth (Liz) Faison, Acting Associate Superintendent of Student Services at Prince George’s County Public Schools
Prince George's County Public Schools enrolls over 133,000 students. Faison is charged with providing oversight to offices that support student’s daily success to include School Counseling, Psychological Services, School Health, Pupil Personnel Services, Student Engagement and School Support, Section 504 Services, College Readiness, International Office of Student Admissions and Enrollment, Home and Hospital Teaching, McKinney Vento Programs, Home Schooling, and the Office of Student Records. She also supports the implementation of the district’s School Based Clinical Mental Health Program, Restorative Approaches, Trauma Informed Approaches, school referral and intervention processes and bullying prevention.
She has maintained her Professional School Counselor certification and was awarded the School Counselor Advocate of the Year by the Maryland School Counselor Association in February (2020). She is a National Board Certified Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. Liz Faison is the CEO of Hope Infusion Transformational Services, Inc. She holds a BS in Sociology/Social Work from Elizabeth City State University (Elizabeth City, NC) and a Master’s of Education in Counseling from East Carolina University (Greenville, NC). She awaits her dissertation defense in the PhD program at Regent University (Virginia Beach, VA) in Counselor Education and Supervision where her research focused on the impacts of spiritual abuse in the black church as it relates to trauma and attrition.
Faison has been a counselor, counselor supervisor, director and school system administrator for 26 years and understands the importance of systemic evolution needed to support student’s mental health needs and their resilience.
Dr. Dwayne Bryant, Ph.D., NCSP, Psychologist at Campbell Union High School District (San Jose, CA)
Dr. Dwayne M. Bryant has gained experience in the field of psychology from working with
the American Psychological Association, Educational Testing Service and the National
Association of School Psychologists. He has a passion for advocacy and fairness for all people and strives to create a balanced and positive narrative of black men in society. Outside of his professional and academic accomplishments he enjoys being a creator. He has created several visual projects (Let’s Talk About It, HU Transition to Internship, Motherland Story and Pieces of Me) that highlight his journey in psychology as well as personal growth. He also co-hosts 6 Degrees of Black Mental Health, a show created to provide a voice for black men in the field of psychology. Sherrie Williams, LCSW, Chief Operating Officer at Global Partnership for TeleHealth
Sherrie Williams is an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker). She currently serves as the Cheif Operating Officer for Global Partnership For Telehealth, a non-profit telehealth network located in Waycross, GA. Prior to becoming COO, she was the Executive Director for Georgia Partnership For Telehealth, Global's sister-company. She works with small to mid-size health systems, public schools, and state agencies to develop and implement telemedicine programs. Prior to coming on board at Georgia Partnership For Telehealth she was the Program Director for Georgia’s first school-based telehealth clinic. Sherrie implemented the telehealth component to the school-based health clinic in 2010 which experienced phenomenal success collaborating with local Primary Care Providers, Pediatric Specialists from resource-rich urban areas, the local hospital, and several area pharmacies.
Sherrie has also been working with a post-adoption support program called ATEAM (Adopted Teen Empowerment And Mentoring) Program for the past 18 years. She has served as a site coordinator and currently serves on the state program planning team where she writes program curriculum.

Each participant is required to record their own attendance on their account the day of the event and complete the course evaluation within one week of the event. Continuing Education credits cannot be issued unless attendance is recorded and evaluations are submitted.
