Description

This course does not offer CE Credits. The same course is available for purchase and offers 1 CE hour for behavioral health clinicians.  See "related products" below.

Addressing racial trauma and its profound effects on clients’ mental health requires more than clinical expertise—it calls for cultural understanding, emotional intelligence, and a steadfast commitment to ethical and equitable practice.

But like many clinicians, you may find yourself lacking the necessary tools and confidence to address this deeply sensitive topic and provide the support clients need, let alone foster meaningful therapeutic progress.

This course offers a clear and practical solution by equipping you with the knowledge and skills to understand, address, and treat racial trauma in therapy.

You’ll explore what racial trauma is, how it develops in people of color, and how it intersects with systemic racism and discrimination. More importantly, you’ll learn how to engage in honest, empathetic conversations with clients about their experiences while improving your skills to support racial equity in your practice.

Join Dr. Sonja Sutherland, a licensed clinician, educator, and expert in racial trauma and cultural competence, as she shares evidence-based insights into the mental and physical toll of racism on BIPOC clients.

Dr. Sutherland will guide you through actionable strategies for creating a safe therapeutic environment where clients can share their experiences, validate their feelings, and begin healing.

Here are the key highlights of what you will gain from this high-impact training:

  • Learn how to recognize the signs of race-based stress and address them using culturally informed interventions tailored to clients' unique experiences.
  • Understand the powerful connection between racism, discrimination, and chronic mental health challenges supported by research-backed insights.
  • Develop key competencies in cultural and ethical care, positioning yourself as a clinician dedicated to equity and inclusion.
  • Gain practical tools to navigate sensitive conversations about race and discrimination with clients in a way that fosters trust, respect, and understanding.
  • And more!

Through this course, you will receive expert guidance that is both actionable and transformative on how to use techniques sensitive to cultural differences to treat and help clients heal while adhering to the highest ethical standards.

This training is more than just an opportunity to grow professionally—it’s a chance to better support clients and make a difference in creating a more fair and supportive mental health system.

Enroll today to deepen your understanding of racial trauma, enhance your ability to meet the unique needs of BIPOC clients, and become a more culturally competent, ethical, and inclusive clinician.

Please note that this is a non-interactive self-study course that consists of 1 hour of video instruction and a course evaluation.
