THTC Program Button

Telemental health is not a separate service from mental health services. All state licensing boards require that licensed clinicians follow all the regulations for practicing under their license no matter what medium of communication is used. All licensing boards also require that clinicians only practice within the boundaries of their competence. This usually requires education, continuing education, and/or supervision in telemental health. Complete our telehealth training program to cover all the essential competencies of providing telemental health services and earn the THTC (Telemental Health Training Certificate).

    Hello Kristy,
Since each state and licensing board is different, we have pulled together a resource that lists rules and regulations for all of them:
There are 2 other resources that have updated information (even temporary) with regard to the COVID-19 situation, The Center for Connected Health Policy: Home Page | CCHP Website
Your therapist will want to check the regulations in both the state he is licensed in as well as the state you will be in at the time of service.

Hi Harvey, the client's location at the time of service is the location in which the service is being provided. You will need to check with that state's board for psychologists to see if there is an agreement established for psychologists practicing Telehealth (such as PSYPACT) or what the requirements are for a provisional license.

Hi Alex, There are many things to consider when seeking to provide services internationally such as the applicable laws of that country (you mentioned), professional liability insurance, cultural considerations, etc. We go into more depth in the International Section of our Legal Aspects of TeleMental Health Course:

I'm a psychologist in Pennsylvania. I am interested to become a provider of teletherapy services in PA.
Also, are there restrictions on providing teletherapy services to a PA resident who is temporarily out of state while attending school.

I work for a mental health clinic and sometimes receive calls from potential clients in other countries who are seeking teletherapy services. Many of these countries don't have articulated laws about teletherapy. By Pennsylvania law, is a therapist licensed in Pennsylvania allowed to administer teletherapy to someone in one of these countries?

I am a licensed LMFT in MA / where I have worked for several years with a couple whose legal residency is in MA They have requested to continue meeting with me via HIPAA compliant on line sessions while they are in PA for an academic semester. Please let me know any guidelines or laws that I must follow.

I was wondering what credentials I would need to become an online therapist in Pennsylvania. I am currently a licensed Social Worker & work as a Mental Health Specialist in my school district.
