In this course, you will learn effective strategies to work with clients in times of crisis when immediate and effective interventions are essential. You will learn skills from the model of the Critical Incident Desensitization of EMDR, developed by Roy Kiessling, to be used in acute and high-stress situations. You will also learn different stabilization techniques and the application of Acute Traumatic Incident Processing for stabilizing clients following critical incidents, how to mitigate the impact of trauma, and how to promote resilience through these rapid-response EMDR methods.
These approaches will include practical, research-backed strategies for addressing distress in emergency settings, including natural disasters, accidents, violence, and first-responder trauma. Integrating trauma-informed care with EMDR to equip clinicians with actionable skills for real-time intervention. This training is ideal for EMDR-trained therapists, crisis responders, medical personnel, and mental health professionals seeking to enhance their ability to manage acute trauma effectively.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the core principles of the Critical Incident Desensitization (CID) of EMDR and its application in acute and high-stress situations.
- Demonstrate effective stabilization techniques to support clients immediately following critical incidents with the use of EMDR strategies.
- Apply Acute Traumatic Incident Processing (ATIP) to help mitigate the impact of trauma on clients and promote resilience in crisis situations.
- Use research-based EMDR strategies to address distress in a variety of settings, including emergency settings, including natural disasters, accidents, violence, and first-responder trauma.
