The LGBTQIA+ community faces unique challenges in the workplace, navigating the demands of the role (clinician) and being a member of a community that is subjected to discrimination, harassment, bullying, political pressures, and social and familial consequences related to their identity/orientation/expression. Federal and state governments hold significant influence on the rights and protections for LGBTQIA+ people, thus creating more tenuous and tumultuous spaces for LGBTQIA+ community members.
This course is aimed at supporting clinicians, supervisors, and agencies in developing inclusive practices for their LGBTQIA+ staff. The purpose of this training is to gain an understanding of affirming supervision practices, identify the skills needed in building affirming supervision practices for LGBTQIA+ clinicians, develop an understanding of why affirming supervision is imperative, and assess organizational culture as it relates to inclusivity.
Learning objectives:
- Analyze the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ clinicians face in the workplace, including discrimination, political pressures, and social consequences.
- Demonstrate skills necessary to create and implement affirming supervision practices for LGBTQIA+ clinicians.
- Evaluate organizational culture to identify areas for improvement in fostering inclusivity and affirming supervision.
