Description

This course is a live, interactive webinar held on November 13, 2026, from 11am-6pm Eastern Standard Time.

Registration closes at midnight (EST) the day before the event

Too many clinicians carry their hardest moments in silence, but those experiences don’t have to dim the work you love. Even in the wake of Adverse Psychological Events (APEs) such as client suicide, violence, sudden loss, subpoenas, grievances, or professional betrayal, there is a path forward.

These moments often shake our confidence and reshape how we see ourselves and our work, yet they can also become powerful turning points for growth, connection, and renewed purpose. In the spirit of reigniting the work that you love, this session brings these often-unspoken experiences into the light. Together, we’ll explore the impacts of APEs, practical strategies for healing, and ways to transform hardship into leadership and advocacy within our field. You are not alone, and you are not defined by your most difficult moments. By illuminating these experiences, we can strengthen resilience, support one another, and rediscover the meaning that first called us to this work.

Khara and Ashley bring both professional expertise and lived understanding of the impacts of APEs. Our work has focused on supporting mental health professionals through challenging experiences, promoting clinician well-being, and fostering sustainable practices that strengthen both providers and the communities they serve.

This training is taught through a reflective, evidence-informed, and engaging approach that combines education, discussion, and tools related to the realities of clinical practice. Participants will be encouraged to connect these topics with their own professional experiences while developing concrete strategies for healing, resilience, leadership, and advocacy.

This training explores the six APEs that clinicians may experience throughout their careers, as well as the impacts that often follow. Participants will examine approaches to intentional healing, burnout prevention, and resilience after career-related traumas. This training also emphasizes the importance of support and peer connection while reducing stigma and isolation among mental health professionals. Finally, participants will create a personalized plan to support long-term well-being and reconnect with what drew them to their work in the mental health field.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understand Adverse Psychological Events: Identify common APEs clinicians may face, such as client suicide, violence, subpoenas, grievances, sudden loss, or professional betrayal, and recognize how these experiences can affect confidence, identity, well-being, and clinical practice.
  • Build a practical path toward healing: Apply evidence-informed strategies that support resilience, burnout prevention, sustainable practice, and intentional recovery after career-altering clinical events.
  • Reconnect with purpose and leadership: Develop a personalized plan for long-term well-being while exploring how difficult professional experiences can become catalysts for renewed meaning, peer support, advocacy, and systemic change.

Why This Course?

  • Clinicians deserve support after difficult clinical events: This training brings difficult, often-unspoken professional experiences into the open, helping clinicians reduce isolation, name the impact of APEs, and find a structured path forward.
  • Healing is strengthened by guidance from those who understand the work: Khara Croswaite Brindle and Ashley Charbonneau bring experience in clinician resilience, supervision, burnout prevention, trauma-informed support, and helping mental health professionals recover from the hardest moments of their careers.
  • Clinician wellness strengthens ethical, sustainable care: This online training aligns with Telehealth Certification Institute’s commitment to equipping healthcare professionals with meaningful continuing education that supports both clinical excellence and clinician wellness.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify common types of Adverse Psychological Events (APEs) experienced by clinicians and describe their impacts.
  • Apply practical, evidence-informed strategies to support healing, resilience, and sustainable clinical practice following an APE.
  • Explore ways to transform experiences with APEs into opportunities for leadership, advocacy, and systemic change within the field.
  • Develop a personalized plan to maintain well-being and reconnect with meaning and purpose in their clinical work.
  • Build leadership skills to help clinicians under your supervision navigate an APE.
  • Identify biases and beliefs about APEs that can cause harm when leading clinicians experiencing APEs, using reflection prompts and resources.

As mental health professionals, we dedicate our careers to helping others, yet too often we experience difficult moments and face them alone. This training offers a space for reflection, connection, and growth while providing practical tools to navigate career-altering events and their impacts. Join us as we bring these experiences into the light and rediscover the meaning and passion that first inspired your work through vicarious healing.
