While foundational knowledge is essential, many clinicians struggle with translating their knowledge about trauma-informed care into actionable treatment strategies. Trauma-informed care requires more than theoretical understanding - it demands practical, evidence-based interventions that are adaptable to diverse client needs. Additionally, the toll of working with trauma survivors can lead to compassion fatigue, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress. This course addresses these challenges by focusing on effective treatment planning, interventions, and self-care strategies to sustain clinicians in their practice.

This training is tailored for mental health professionals who have a foundational knowledge of trauma and are ready to advance their skills in designing treatment plans and applying interventions. It is especially beneficial for those working in high-stress or trauma-heavy caseloads and seeking strategies to maintain their professional resilience. Even experienced trauma therapists will find value in exploring advanced techniques like EMDR, narrative therapies, and resilience training.

This course integrates the latest research on evidence-based trauma therapies and clinician self-care. We include frameworks for balancing professional demands with personal well-being. By introducing advanced intervention strategies, such as body-based therapies and resilience-building techniques, the course goes beyond conventional approaches. It also addresses often-overlooked topics like trauma stewardship and protective factors to combat secondary trauma.

Participants will gain the ability to design trauma-informed treatment plans and apply interventions inspired by EMDR, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and family-based approaches. They will also learn to identify and mitigate the indirect effects of trauma on their own well-being, as well as implement self-care strategies to maintain resilience. By the end of the course, attendees will feel confident in applying these advanced skills while safeguarding their own mental health.

This course prepares clinicians with practical tools to address trauma’s complex impacts while protecting their own capacity to provide care. The ability to implement effective treatment strategies and maintain personal resilience is critical for long-term success in trauma-focused practice. Through this course, clinicians can sustain their commitment to trauma-informed care while achieving positive outcomes for their clients and themselves.

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply the core principles of trauma-informed care to case examples.
  • Design a trauma-informed treatment plan for a case study client.
  • Classify elements of indirect trauma and the impact it has on clinician well-being.
  • Identify levels of resilience and self-care strategies used for combating the indirect effects of trauma.
