Superpowers of The Wounded Healer: Counseling Considerations

Enroll in the Online Self-Study and complete the training on your own schedule.

3 CE hours available for behavioral health clinicians completing the Online Self-Study

When the wounded healer enters the therapy room, both pain and purpose have a seat at the table. As mental health professionals, we are often called to help others heal while still navigating our own experiences, and when our healing is acknowledged and integrated, it becomes an advantage rather than a barrier.

We invite you to explore how personal wounds, when mindfully tended to, can become sources of strength in clinical work. Through case studies, counseling strategies, and ethical guidance, this course offers a path forward for providers working with—or as—wounded healers.

Elizabeth Hartshorn, LPC, MAC, brings over decades of clinical and supervisory experience in mental health and addiction to this rich, engaging course. Having walked her own journey of recovery, she is uniquely positioned to guide clinicians through the complexities of treating healthcare professionals with compassion and integrity.

Elizabeth’s approach is grounded in practical wisdom and lived experience. She integrates clinical best practices, supervision insights, and narrative case examples to help clinicians recognize impairment, support recovery, and build therapeutic trust with healthcare professionals.

This course covers the dynamics of self-disclosure, countertransference, and clinical impairment; ethical considerations when treating healthcare providers; and the power of trust-building and recovery-oriented care. Case studies illuminate real-world scenarios of healthcare professionals reclaiming their purpose through healing.
