Become a Certified Clinical Supervisor in Georgia: Essential Guide for LPCs

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Georgia, your role as a clinical supervisor is critical in shaping the next generation of counselors. Becoming a Certified Clinical Supervisor enhances your professional credentials and enables you to contribute significantly to the mental health community. Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI) provides comprehensive training to help you fulfill the requirements to become an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS).

Understanding Georgia's Clinical Supervision Requirements

In Georgia, clinical supervision standards are governed by the Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists. To provide clinical supervision, LPCs must meet specific post-licensure experience and training requirements detailed in Rule 135-5-.02:

Required Post-Licensure Experience:

  • Master's Degree: 3 years

  • Specialist Degree: 2 years

  • Doctoral Degree: 1 year

Approved Supervision Credentials: Georgia LPCs must obtain either:

  • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) from the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)

  • Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) from the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LPCAGA)

While both credentials meet state requirements, the ACS credential has broad national recognition. Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI) provides the required training for LPCs pursuing the ACS credential.

Why Choose the ACS Credential?

The ACS credential is widely recognized, enhancing your credibility as a supervisor. ACS certification involves:

  • Holding a valid LPC license in Georgia

  • Completing approved supervision training

  • Demonstrating post-licensure counseling experience

  • Submitting necessary documentation, training proof, and professional recommendations
