How to Become an Approved Clinical Supervisor for LMHCs in Florida

📝 Florida's Requirements for Supervisors

To be designated as an Approved Supervisor for mental health counselor interns in Florida, LMHCs must fulfill the following criteria:

1.Clinical Experience: Accumulate five (5) years of clinical experience, with at least three (3) years obtained post-licensure.

2.Supervisory Training: Complete, subsequent to licensure, one of the following supervisory training options:

• A graduate-level academic course in supervision meeting the requirements of Rule 64B4-6.0025, F.A.C.

• A continuing education course in supervisory training that complies with Rule 64B4-6.0025, F.A.C., which requires 12 hours of live instruction and outlines specific learning objectives, including supervision models, ethical and legal responsibilities, cultural considerations, and evaluation of supervisee competence.

• A post-graduate training course for field instructors in clinical social work.

• Designation as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) by The Center for Credentialing and Education, Inc. (CCE).

• Designation as an Approved Supervisor by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

🔄 Renewal Requirements

To maintain Approved Clinical Supervisor status, LMHCs must complete four (4) hours of supervisory training continuing education every third biennium (every six years). These hours count toward the continuing education required for license renewal.
