🧾 Michigan Requirements for Becoming a Clinical Supervisor
According to the Michigan Administrative Code Rule R 338.1781, LPCs must meet both educational and experiential qualifications before supervising LLPCs.
✅ Educational Training Requirement
You must complete one of the following:
30 contact hours of workshop training in counseling supervision OR
2 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in counseling supervision
The training must cover nine essential topics:
Roles and functions of counseling supervisors
Mental health-related professional development
Supervisory relationship issues
Cultural issues in supervision
Group supervision
Legal and ethical issues in counseling supervision
Evaluation of supervisee and the supervision process

📆 Post-Master’s Experience Requirement
Your experience requirement depends on when you began supervising:
5 years of post-master’s counseling experience if you began supervision on or after May 5, 2022
3 years if you began before May 5, 2022, but after January 1, 2013
If you started before January 1, 2013, you only need 3 years of experience and documented training
Alternatively, you may qualify if you currently hold the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential issued by the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE).
