Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) in Mississippi must renew their licenses every two years, with the renewal cycle concluding on June 30 of the renewal year. Counselors are required to complete 24 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) during each renewal period. Within these 24 hours, 6 CEHs must specifically address professional ethics or legal issues in the delivery of counseling services. Additionally, if an LPC is listed as a Distance Professional Services provider, they are required to complete 2 CEHs in Telemental Health counseling.

To maintain LPC-S status, supervisors must complete 24 continuing education (CE) hours every two years, which must include 6 hours in professional ethics or legal issues and 2 hours in supervision-specific training. Additionally, LPC-Ss listed as Distance Professional Services providers must complete 2 hours in Telemental Health counseling. The Telehealth Certification Institute offers a Clinical Supervision Certificate Program and supervision-specific CE courses that meet Mississippi’s training and renewal standards, making it easy for professionals to stay compliant and advance their supervisory skills.

Telehealth Certification Institute, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6693. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Telehealth Certification Institute, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

NBCC CE hours are accepted by the Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Licensed Professional Counselors.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) in Mississippi are required to renew their licenses every two years and must complete 24 hours of approved Continuing Education (CE) within each renewal cycle. However, licensees are exempt from this CE requirement during their first renewal period. As part of the required CE, LMFTs must complete 4 hours specifically focused on MFT professional ethics.

To become and remain a board-approved clinical supervisor in Mississippi, LMFTs must meet both initial training and ongoing continuing education (CE) requirements established by the Mississippi State Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists.

Before applying for supervisor status, LMFTs who are not AAMFT Approved Supervisors must complete a Board-approved MFT supervision course consisting of at least 24 contact hours (Rule 2.2(C)(4)(d)). The course must:

• Be approved by the Mississippi Board
• Be taught by an LMFT who is also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor
• Be taught in person - Not be self-directed or delivered through distance learning or online formats

AAMFT Supervisor Candidates and AAMFT Approved Supervisors may qualify through alternate pathways but must still submit an application and required documentation to the Board for approval.

To maintain supervisor status, approved supervisors must complete:

• 2 hours of in-person, Board-approved CE in MFT supervision every two years

These hours must be completed face-to-face. Online, distance-learning, and self-directed formats are not accepted.

The only exception is AAMFT or AAMFT division “Supervisor Refresher” courses, which are automatically approved. No supervision CE is required during the first renewal cycle.

Licensed Certified Social Workers (LCSWs) in Mississippi must renew their licenses every two years, and are required to complete 40 hours of approved Continuing Education (CE) during each renewal cycle. Within these 40 hours, there are specific mandatory topics: 4 hours must be in professional ethics, 2 hours must address cultural diversity, multicultural issues, or cultural competency, and 1 hour must be dedicated to Mandated Reporting.

To qualify and remain in good standing as a Board-approved clinical supervisor for LCSWs in Mississippi, you must complete both initial supervision training and ongoing continuing education (CE) as outlined by the Mississippi Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists (MBOESWMFT).

For initial approval, per Part 1902, Rule 2.3(D) of the Mississippi Rules and Regulations:

• The training must:

• Be conducted by a Board-approved LCSW supervisor
• Result in a certificate of completion
• Be completed before submission of your supervision application to the Social Work Discipline Specific Committee (SWDSC)

To maintain your approved supervisor status:

• Complete 2 hours of clinical supervision-specific CE during each biennial license renewal cycle

These hours must:

• Come from a Board-approved CE provider (ASWB-approved providers are accepted)
• Specifically address clinical supervision, not general management

⚠️ First Renewal Exception: The 2-hour supervision CE is not required for your first renewal after being approved as a supervisor.

Licensed Psychologists (LPs) in Mississippi must renew their licenses every two years and are required to complete 20 hours of approved Continuing Education (CE) during each renewal cycle. Of these 20 hours, at least 2 hours must be focused on ethics or legal issues related to the practice of psychology.

Mississippi does not require supervision-specific continuing education (CE) for psychologists to serve as clinical supervisors. Licensed psychologists must meet the state’s general CE requirements to maintain active licensure and remain eligible to supervise. Under 30 Miss. Code R. 3201-12.1, 12.2, and 12.6, psychologists must complete 20 hours of approved continuing education every two years, including at least 2 hours in professional ethics or legal issues related to the practice of psychology. License renewal occurs on a biennial cycle in odd-numbered years, with CE completed by June 30 of the renewal year. Newly licensed psychologists may qualify for reduced or exempt CE during their initial renewal period. As long as these standard CE obligations are met and the license remains in good standing, no additional CE or formal training is required to serve as a clinical supervisor in Mississippi.
