Nevada CEU Requirements

In Nevada, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) must renew their licenses on a biennial cycle, with all licenses expiring on January 1 of every even-numbered year and renewal fees due by December 31 of the preceding year. The standard requirement is 40 hours of continuing education (CE) per renewal period for licensees issued before January 1, 2024, including 6 hours in ethics, 4 hours in suicide prevention, and 6 hours in cultural competency. For newly licensed professionals, CE requirements are prorated based on the original license issue date, ranging from 10 to 30 hours with adjusted topic-specific requirements. Up to 20 CE hours may be completed through non-interactive formats such as self-paced or on-demand courses, while the remaining must be interactive, including live webinars or in-person sessions.

In Nevada, approved clinical supervisors—whether Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (CPCs) or Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs)—must complete at least 2 hours of continuing education specifically related to clinical supervision during each biennial renewal period. This requirement, outlined in NAC 641A.131(3), ensures that supervisors maintain competence and stay current with best practices in supervision. In Nevada, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) and Licensed Independent Social Workers (LISWs) are required to renew their licenses every two years and must complete 36 continuing education (CE) hours per renewal cycle. These hours must include 2 hours in suicide prevention and awareness, 6 hours in cultural diversity, equality, and inclusion, 4 hours in ethics specific to the practice of social work, and 12 hours in the licensee’s area of professional practice. The remaining 12 hours may cover any other relevant topics of the licensee’s choosing. All CEU documentation must be uploaded to the state licensing portal, and CE content must align with standards set by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers.

Nevada does not require supervision-specific continuing education (CE) hours to become or remain a clinical supervisor. However, supervisors must maintain an active LCSW license and meet the state’s general CE requirements. According to NAC 641B.187 and 641B.280.(2), LCSWs in Nevada must complete 36 CE hours every two years, including:

• 4 hours in ethics
• 2 hours in suicide prevention and awareness
• 12 hours in the licensee’s area of practice
• 6 hours in cultural competency and diversity, equity and inclusion

The remaining hours may be earned through approved professional development activities. While supervision CE is optional, many LCSWs choose to pursue it to enhance their supervisory skills, stay aligned with ethical standards, and improve supervisee outcomes.

Telehealth Certification Institute LLC, #1609, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 05/02/2024 – 05/02/2027.

Psychologists licensed in Nevada must renew their license every two years and are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) during each renewal cycle. Of these, at least 6 hours must cover scientific and professional ethics and standards, including common areas of professional misconduct, 2 hours must address evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness, and 2 hours must focus on cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Nevada Administrative Code limits home study or self-paced courses to a maximum of 15 hours, and CE credit cannot be claimed for courses where the licensee is the instructor.

Nevada does require supervision-specific training for psychologists before they may serve as clinical supervisors, but it does not require ongoing, supervisor-only CE after initial approval. To qualify as a supervisor, a Nevada Licensed Psychologist must complete at least 15 hours of formal training in clinical supervision from a Board-approved accrediting agency (or an approved equivalent such as a graduate course or supervised supervisory experience, described in ). Of those 15 hours, no more than 7.5 hours may be completed via self-study, with the remaining hours obtained through live or interactive training. Once this initial supervision-training requirement is met and approved by the Board, no additional supervision-specific CE is required to maintain supervisor status.

Separately, all Nevada psychologists must meet the state’s general license renewal CE requirements (outlined in NAC 641.136), regardless of supervisory role. Psychologists must complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years, including 6 hours in scientific and professional ethics and professional conduct, 2 hours in suicide prevention and awareness, and 6 hours in cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Nevada limits home-study (non-live) CE to a maximum of 15 hours per renewal cycle, meaning at least half of renewal CE must be live or interactive. APA-approved online and live courses are accepted as long as they fall within these limits.
