The Skill of Self-Disclosure in Supervision

July 10, 2026 from 1-2:30pm EDT (12pm CDT / 10am PDT)

Self-disclosure is a tool in clinical work that clinicians often feel trepidation about utilizing. What if I overshare? What if it doesn't land well for the client? Clinical supervision provides an opportunity to try on self-disclosure in a professional sense for the supervisee, in support of their own clinical growth and development. Additionally, self-disclosure can be modeled appropriately by their clinical supervisor as well to enhance the supervision alliance. Together, we will explore a simple framework for the skill that is self-disclosure, as well as identify opportunities for supervisors to embrace self-disclosure in the professional relationships they build with their supervisees.

Supporting Supervisee Growth from Novice to Expert

September 11, 2026 from 1-2:30pm EDT (12pm CDT / 10am PDT)

Clinical supervision plays a critical role in shaping the development of emerging therapists, yet it is often limited to a focus on skill acquisition and theoretical orientation. This presentation reframes supervision as an intentional, developmental process designed to support supervisee growth from novice to more advanced levels of practice. Participants will explore common gaps in graduate training that can leave supervisees underprepared for the realities of clinical work, including challenges related to professional boundaries, role clarity, and translating conceptual knowledge into practice with clients. We will highlight how these gaps can impact supervisees’ confidence, decision-making, and professional identity. Emphasis will be placed on practical, developmentally appropriate supervision strategies that promote growth across stages of competency.
