Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor Renewal Information
In Florida, Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs) are required to renew their licenses biennially.
After the first renewal, where no continuing education (CE) is required, LMHCs must complete 30 hours of approved CE for each subsequent renewal period.
Thet have specific continuing education (CE) requirements to fulfill each renewal period:
They must complete 2 CE hours focused on the prevention of medical errors. Additionally, every renewal period requires 3 CE hours in either professional ethics and boundary issues or telehealth, with the courses alternating between renewals. A 2-hour CE course on domestic violence is mandatory within six months of initial licensure and every third renewal thereafter. Furthermore, every third renewal period after initial licensure also necessitates 3 CE hours specifically regarding Florida laws and rules.

CE Requirement:
- Total Continuing Education (CE) Hours Required: 30 (exempt on first renewal)
