Idaho CEU Requirements

Idaho is transitioning to a biennial license renewal cycle for Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPCs). Under this updated cycle, LCPCs are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years. The CE requirement must include 6 hours in ethics, 3 hours in boundaries, and 3 hours in suicide assessment or intervention.

In Idaho, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPCs) who are registered as clinical supervisors must complete 6 hours of advanced supervisor-related continuing education (CE) within the 24 months prior to each license renewal. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) in Idaho are also transitioning to a biennial renewal cycle. LMFTs must complete 12 CE hours every two years to maintain their license in good standing. These CE hours must include 6 hours in ethics, 3 hours in boundaries, and 3 hours in suicide assessment or intervention.

To serve as a clinical supervisor in Idaho, MFTs must first complete 15 hours of formal supervision training through board-approved continuing education (Idaho Administrative Code Rule 24.15.01.239.01). This training must cover core supervision competencies and is required before you can apply to supervise.

To keep your supervisor registration active under Rule 24.15.01.239.03, you must then complete 6 hours of advanced clinical supervision continuing education within the 24 months prior to each renewal. These hours must be in supervision-specific content beyond your initial training.

In Idaho, licensed psychologists are required to renew their licenses annually, with a continuing education (CE) requirement of 30 hours every two years. A specific component of this CE requirement mandates that 4 CE hours be dedicated to law and ethics.

Idaho does not require supervision-specific continuing education (CE) to qualify or remain eligible to serve as a clinical supervisor. However, all licensed psychologists must meet the state’s general CE requirements to maintain an active license and remain eligible to supervise.
