Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) in Missouri are required to renew their licenses every two years, with the renewal deadline based on the expiration date printed on the license. To maintain licensure, counselors must complete a minimum of 40 continuing education (CE) hours during each renewal cycle, all of which must be relevant to the practice of professional counseling. Of these 40 hours, at least 20 hours must be formal CE, such as live, in-person, or interactive online sessions, while the remaining 20 hours may be earned through self-study or asynchronous learning formats.

Licensed Marital and Family Therapists (MFTs) in Missouri must renew their licenses every two years, with the renewal deadline based on the license's expiration date. Each renewal cycle requires a total of 40 continuing education (CE) contact hours, all of which must support the professional development of the therapist. Of these 40 hours, at least 20 hours must be formal CE—such as live, interactive, or structured learning experiences—while the remaining 20 hours may be completed through self-study or additional formal training. A contact hour is defined as 50 minutes of instructional time.

To become an eligible LMFT clinical supervisor in Missouri, you must meet specific supervision-related training requirements before beginning supervision. Per Missouri regulation 20 CSR 2233-2.021, this includes:

• At least 15 CE hours in structured supervision training (or 1 graduate semester hour in MFT supervision)

Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) in Missouri must renew their licenses every two years, based on the expiration date printed on the license. To qualify for renewal, LCSWs are required to complete 30 clock hours of continuing education (CE) relevant to the practice of social work. This total must include at least 3 hours of ethics training delivered by a qualified social work professional or ethics expert, and 2 hours specifically focused on suicide assessment, referral, treatment, and management.

In Missouri, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) who wish to provide clinical supervision must meet initial training requirements as defined by the Missouri State Committee for Social Workers, but the state does not require ongoing supervision-specific CE to maintain supervisor status.

To initially qualify as a supervisor under 20 CSR 2263-2.031, LCSWs must complete a 16-hour CE course in clinical supervision, covering:

• Supervision of the supervisee’s practice
• Professional relationships
• Work content
• Evaluation and lifelong learning
• Professional responsibility

Missouri does not require supervision-specific CE hours for renewal of supervisor status. However, to maintain your license—and remain eligible to supervise—you must meet the state’s general license renewal requirements under 20 CSR 2263-2.082, which include:

Licensed Psychologists in Missouri are required to complete 40 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, within a reporting cycle that runs from December 1 of odd-numbered years through November 30 of the following odd-numbered year. To remain in good standing, at least 15 CE hours must come from Category A activities, which include formal, accredited programs. The remaining 25 hours may be fulfilled through either Category A or Category B activities, such as informal or self-directed learning that meets state criteria. Additionally, psychologists must complete 3 CE hours specifically in ethics, which may be counted under either category.

Missouri does not require supervision-specific continuing education (CE) for psychologists to serve as clinical supervisors. Instead, licensed psychologists must meet the state’s general CE requirements to maintain active licensure and remain eligible to supervise. Under 20 CSR 2235-7.010, psychologists must complete 40 hours of approved continuing education every two-year renewal cycle (December 1 of an odd-numbered year through November 30 of the next odd-numbered year). At least 15 hours must be Category A (formal, approved education), and 3 of the 40 hours must be in ethics. APA-approved online courses qualify as Category A, and up to 15 excess Category A hours may carry over to the next cycle. There is no additional CE requirement tied specifically to supervising postdoctoral candidates.
