Instructor and Disclosures

James R. Corbin, MSW, LCSW

Prof. Corbin received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the Pennsylvania State University and his Masters Degree in Social Work from Temple University. He is a doctoral candidate from the Clinical Social Work Institute in Washington, DC. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania with a specialty in childhood mental illness and individual and family therapy with children, adolescents, adults, and their families. He has worked for over 25 years in the mental health field including eight years at Hoffman Homes for Youth in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and had most recently served as their Assistant Director of Clinical Services. He was appointed in the spring of 2002 as Adjunct Faculty Member and fall 2002 through spring 2008 as Visiting Instructor/Lecturer of Social Work at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) and served as their BSW Program Director. From 2008-2018, he has served as full-time clinical faculty and instructor in the graduate school of social work at Temple University and was former Assistant MSW Program Director and Clinical Director of the Military Family Center at Temple – a counseling center for military service members, veterans, and their families. He is happy to join Elizabethtown College in the fall of 2021 as the Social Work Program Director!

He has written and presented extensively on the subject of neuroscience and its impact on clinical practice and has been a featured presenter for the National Association of Social Workers at their Annual Conference. An article on the biopsychosocial implications of attachment was published in the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal. He was a featured guest on the NPR program “Radio Smart Talk” as an expert on the subject of Reactive Attachment Disorder. Two articles on clinical supervision and ethics in practice appear in separate issues of The New Social Worker journal. He published an article on the ethical implications for disclosure of HIV status in The Journal of Clinical Ethics. He had received training in child-centered play therapy and had practiced as a child and family therapist for The Play Therapy Center and is a former associate with D.K. Watkins Psychology Associates in York, Pennsylvania. He had practiced privately in the outpatient setting at Pennsylvania Counseling Services. Additionally, he had served as clinical supervisor for their school-based program in the York City Schools. He has been in part-time practice at Northeastern Counseling Services in Mechanicsburg, PA since 2016.
