What sits at the intersection of evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, and telemental health? It is challenging for clinicians to juggle the legal, ethical, and best practice considerations for clients who have survived trauma, especially when navigating telehealth considerations. The good news is, we can offer evidence-based and trauma-informed therapy from a cognitive-behavioral perspective via telehealth!
This program is for therapists, counselors, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, school counselors, and any mental health professional who work with survivors of trauma and use telehealth to connect with their clients. This is an intermediate course, so participants are expected to come with basic knowledge of laws and ethics around telehealth, trauma, and cognitive behavioral therapy. This program will enhance this knowledge and provide current information about the research around telehealth, CBT, and trauma-informed care. It will also provide information about the different components of trauma-informed care with CBT interventions.
When you finish this course, you will have a wide variety of specific CBT-based interventions that you can implement via telehealth with a trauma-informed perspective. Since trauma-informed care requires flexibility, you will have the knowledge to tweak each intervention based on the client’s needs and history. Learn the current research, laws, and ethics codes that inform trauma and telehealth.
This is a non-interactive, self-study course that consists of 360 minutes of video instruction, a post-test and a course evaluation.
From the time of registration, you have six months to access the coursework.
Upon completion of this training, professionals will be able to do the following:
- Appraise the benefits and limitations of cognitive behavioral therapy with trauma survivors.
- Construct cognitive behavioral interventions that incorporate trauma-informed philosophy for implementation in sessions.
- Employ cognitive behavioral therapy with trauma survivors effectively and ethically in a telehealth setting.
- Collaboratively develop interventions and treatment plans with clients that meet their unique needs and preferences.
- Assess client history, needs, and individual trauma history to determine appropriateness for cognitive behavioral and telehealth services.

To complete an Online Self Study Course, one must register, log in, select the My Courses option from the menu items, click the Course Title, complete all of the modules, complete and pass the post-test(s), and complete the course evaluation.
A grade of at least 80% or more is required to pass the post-test. Retaking the post-test is possible until the participant is able to pass the test.
Psychologists and other professionals seeking CE credit through our approval with the American Psychological Association are asked but not required to complete the course evaluation before obtaining their certificate of completion, however passing a post-test for online self-study courses, and submitting one's attendance for live on-site and live webinars is required.
You can download or print your certificate of completion by logging into your account, navigating to the course by selecting the My Courses option from the menu items, clicking the Course Title, scrolling to the Certificate of Completion section, and clicking on the Certificate of Completion link to either download it or print it.
