This non-interactive self-study course was recorded from a live webinar presented by Dr. Kristy Christopher-Holloway on March 24, 2021.

Instruction consists of 1 hour of video instruction and a post-test.

Dr. Kristy Christopher-Holloway, Ed.D, LPC, NCC, BCTMH, CPCS, ACS, PMH-C

Dr. Kristy Christopher-Holloway is an Assistant Professor at Lindsey Wilson College in the School of Professional Counseling, the founder and director of New Vision Counseling Center, LLC, and founder of New Vision Consulting and Training, LLC, both located in Georgia. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, a Board Certified Tele-mental Health Provider, a counselor supervisor, and certified in Perinatal Mental Health. She works with racial and ethnic minority women experiencing infertility trauma, birth trauma, reproductive loss, and issues related to maternal mental health. Dr. Christopher-Holloway is a national and international speaker with a focus on topics such as African Americans and mental health, the psycho-emotional impact of infertility in African American women, perinatal mood disorders, the strong Black woman syndrome, generational trauma, cultural competence/humility, and more. She has received numerous honors, including the Breakthrough Award for Outstanding Research awarded by the National Board of Certified Counselors, in recognition of her work related to mental health and infertility.

CE Hours

Credit Hours: This course consists of 1 continuing education hour of credit.

How to Complete the Course and Earn Your Certificate

 To receive your certificate of completion you must complete the course in its entirety.

To complete an Online Self Study Course, one must register, log in, select the My Courses option from the menu items, click the Course Title, complete all of the modules, complete and pass the post-test(s), and complete the course evaluation.

A grade of at least 80% or more is required to pass the post-test. Retaking the post-test is possible until the participant is able to pass the test.

Psychologists and other professionals seeking CE credit through our approval with the American Psychological Association are asked but not required to complete the course evaluation before obtaining their certificate of completion, however passing a post-test for online self-study courses, and submitting one's attendance for live on-site and live webinars is required.

You can download or print your certificate of completion by logging into your account, navigating to the course by selecting the My Courses option from the menu items, clicking the Course Title, scrolling to the Certificate of Completion section, and clicking on the Certificate of Completion link to either download it or print it.

Participants may request a printed version of their certificate of completion to be delivered by mail. A shipping/handling fee of $6.95 will be charged per request. Shipping internationally may require an additional charge.

Below I have included the general coverage rules from the plan documents.
Services Covered:
• Fertility prevention, such as tubal ligation (or its equivalent) or vasectomy (initial surgery only).
• Infertility testing and treatment for infertile members including in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), and pronuclear stage transfer (PROST).
Benefits Maximum:
• $15,000 per lifetime for covered services and supplies related to infertility treatment.
Not Covered:
• Infertility treatment if the infertility is the result of voluntary sterilization.
• The collection or purchase of donor semen (sperm) or oocytes (eggs) when performed in connection with fertility or infertility procedures or for any other reason or service; freezing and storage of sperm, oocytes, or embryos; surrogate parent services.
• Reversal of a tubal ligation(or its equivalent) or vasectomy.
However, this language is still very vague and her best choice to get exact answers is to contact the health plan via the below steps.
1. Request a pre-treatment plan with ICD-10 codes from her provider.
2. Her provider can either submit it to the health plan on her behalf or she can request a copy and contact the health plan herself.
3. The health plan will then tell her what will and will not be covered.

This would be a great opportunity to offer a warm transfer to the health plan to help the participant explain what she is looking for. Let me know if you have any further questions.
