Description

Treating juvenile sex offenders is one of the most ethically complex, emotionally charged, and professionally demanding roles a clinician can take on. But in the midst of rising demand and limited access to specialized care, telemental health offers an opportunity to reach this high-risk population more effectively—if done correctly.
This course is your essential guide to navigating the nuanced clinical, legal, and ethical challenges of treating juvenile sex offenders via telehealth. If you're working with this population—or even just considering it—this training gives you the insights, tools, and confidence to provide effective and responsible care.
Dr. April R. Crable, PhD, MBA, PLC, SOTP, CSAC, is a seasoned expert in sex offender treatment, trauma, ethics, and telemental health. With extensive clinical experience and licensure across multiple states, Dr. Crable has dedicated her career to some of the most underserved and misunderstood clients in behavioral health. Her real-world perspective and commitment to ethical excellence make her uniquely qualified to teach this course.
Drawing on over a decade of hands-on clinical work and a robust background in distance education, Dr. Crable leads participants through both foundational knowledge and advanced considerations. Her teaching is clear, practical, and grounded in lived experience—including the unexpected ways she first began working with this population and the self-care it demands.
This training explores the typologies of juvenile sex offenders and unpacks the unique challenges they present, especially in a virtual setting. You’ll examine the high prevalence of psychiatric comorbidities, the systemic barriers to care, and the myths and misconceptions that can derail treatment. The course also addresses core issues such as consent, risk assessment, treatment strategies, legal compliance, supervision, provider burnout, and the reality of delivering care in correctional or community settings.
Key Takeaways:
Understand the population: Gain clarity on the profiles, risk factors, and treatment responsiveness of juveniles with sexual behavior problems.
Apply ethical principles to telehealth: Learn how to ethically manage care delivery when legal, privacy, and competency issues collide.
