To supervise clinical mental health Counselors in Rhode Island, the Board of Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists requires:
✅ Supervisor Qualifications:
As per 216-RICR-40-05-11, Section 11.3.3(B), a clinical supervisor must:
Hold a valid license as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, or Independent Clinical Social Worker.
Be licensed in good standing for at least five (5) years.
Have at least five (5) years of post-licensure clinical experience.
Fulfill one of the following supervision training paths:
Completion of a graduate course in supervision in counseling from an accredited institution,
Hold the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential from the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE),
Have two (2) years of experience supervising clinical staff in a mental health setting.
