How to Become an Approved Clinical Supervisor for Social Workers in Florida
Are you a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida looking to become a Qualified Supervisor? This guide outlines exactly what you need to know—plus how the Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI) can help you meet all the supervision training requirements with ease.
📋 Florida’s Clinical Supervisor Requirements
The Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling establishes specific criteria for professionals seeking designation as a Qualified Supervisor (QS). Below are the key requirements for LCSWs and LMHCs:
1. Clinical Experience
Applicants must demonstrate a total of four years of clinical experience, which includes:
Up to two years earned during a post-master’s clinical internship
At least two years of post-licensure clinical experience
This experience must be completed under a current, active license in good standing.
2. Supervisor Training Requirement
In addition to clinical experience, you must complete supervisory training through one of the following pathways:
A graduate-level academic course in supervision
A continuing education training that meets Florida Board requirements (as referenced in the affirmation statement)
A post-graduate training course for field instructors in clinical social work
Holding the AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation

✅ 3 hours: Ethics and boundaries
✅ 2 hours: Domestic violence — required within 6 months of initial licensure and then every third renewal
