How to Become an Approved Clinical Supervisor in Arkansas
Are you an experienced LCSW in Arkansas ready to take the next step in your career? Becoming an approved clinical supervisor allows you to mentor rising social workers, contribute to the profession, and expand your professional influence. At the Telehealth Certification Institute (TCI), we help you prepare with continuing education (CE) courses, certificate programs, and free supervision forums designed to support your supervisory success.
✅ Arkansas Requirements to Become an LCSW Supervisor
According to the Arkansas Social Work Licensing Board, to become an approved clinical supervisor, an LCSW must:
Hold an active, unrestricted LCSW license in good standing
Have a minimum of three (3) years of post-licensure experience as an LCSW
Submit the "Application for Supervision Status" to the board
🟡 Ongoing/Renewal Continuing Education Requirements
Arkansas does not require supervision-specific continuing education (CE) hours for LCSWs to become or remain approved clinical supervisors. However, all LCSWs—regardless of supervisory status—must meet the following general CE requirements to renew their license:
30 total CE hours every two years
At least 3 hours must be in professional ethics
No more than 15 hours may be completed via independent study (e.g. self-paced online courses, recorded webinars)
CE hours must directly relate to social work practice and contribute to the licensee’s professional competence
📘 Why Take Supervision CE Courses If They’re Not Required?
Although CE is not mandated for LCSW supervisors in Arkansas, training provides essential value:
Build confidence and clarity in your supervisory role
Learn how to navigate ethical dilemmas and documentation expectations
Stay current with national supervision standards
Prepare for supervision across state lines (many states do require training)
Strengthen your leadership, communication, and mentorship skills
🎓 How TCI Supports Arkansas Supervisors
