🧭 Tennessee's Requirements for Clinical Supervisors
To be recognized as an Approved Clinical Supervisor by the Tennessee Board for Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marital and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Pastoral Therapists, you must:
Hold an LPC-MHSP License for at Least Five Years
You must have been licensed as a Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider (MHSP) designation for a minimum of five years.Complete Supervision Training
Fulfill one of the following training options:Achieve a passing grade in an academic course specific to the supervision of counselors from an accredited institution.
Obtain supervision certification from a recognized professional association, such as:
AAMFT Approved Supervisor
AAPC Approved Supervisor
NBCC Approved Clinical Supervisor
Any other organization designated by the Board
Provide documentation of twelve (12) contact hours related to counseling supervision and other related supervision topics.
Maintain Continuing Education
Every two years, complete three (3) clock hours of continuing education related to counseling supervision or related supervision topics.
