Ohio CEU Requirements

In Ohio, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) must renew their license every two years by the renewal deadline established by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Each renewal cycle requires completion of 30 clock hours of approved continuing education (CE), including a mandatory 3 hours in ethics.

Telehealth Certification Institute, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6693. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Telehealth Certification Institute, LLC is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

NBCC CE hours are accepted by the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.

In Ohio, Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) and Independent Marriage and Family Therapists (IMFTs) must renew their licenses every two years by the renewal deadline set by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Each renewal cycle requires 30 hours of approved continuing professional education (CE), which must include at least 3 hours in ethics.

To qualify for and maintain the training supervision designation (IMFT-S) in Ohio, Independent Marriage and Family Therapists (IMFTs) must meet both initial and ongoing continuing education (CE) requirements as outlined in OAC Rule 4757-29-01(H) and Rule 4757-9-01.

IMFTs applying for the training supervision designation through Path B (i.e., not already AAMFT Approved Supervisors) must complete the AAMFT 30-hour supervision course or an equivalent course approved by the MFT professional standards committee

Once approved, IMFT-S license holders must complete 30 total CE hours every two years for license renewal, including 3 hours in ethics.

In addition, IMFT-S licensees must meet the supervision-specific CE requirements outlined in OAC 4757-9-01(A)(2), unless exempt due to active AAMFT Approved Supervisor status. Under OAC Rule 4757-9-01(A)(2), the required 3 hours of supervision CE for IMFT-S renewal must be:

• The AAMFT Supervision Refresher Course, or
• A course that qualifies as an equivalent under OAC 4757-29-01(F)(3)

✅ Active AAMFT Approved Supervisors may submit proof of their status in lieu of the 3 supervision CE hours — per OAC Rule 4757-29-01(H)(3–4)

IMFT-S 3-Hour Supervision Refresher Requirement
Under OAC Rule 4757-9-01(A)(2):

“Only the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy supervision refresher course or an equivalent course, as defined in paragraph (F)(3) of rule 4757-29-01 of the Administrative Code, may be used to meet this requirement.”

In Ohio, Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) are required to renew their license every two years in accordance with deadlines set by the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Each renewal period mandates completion of 30 clock hours of approved continuing education (CE) in the field of social work, including at least 3 hours specifically in ethics.

To become and remain approved as a clinical supervisor in Ohio, Licensed Independent Social Workers (LISWs) must meet both initial training and ongoing continuing education (CE) requirements.

Per Ohio Administrative Code Rule 4757-23-01(H), LISWs applying for the supervision designation (LISW-S) must complete either:

• Nine (9) hours of supervision-specific continuing education that is approved by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), or
• One graduate-level supervision course, completed within the past three (3) years.

The required training must address the following core competencies:

• Major models of supervision for social work
• Development of a personal model of supervision
• Dynamics of the licensee–client and supervisor–licensee–client relationship
• Unique issues that arise in supervision
• Contextual variables (e.g., culture, gender, ethnicity, power, economics)
• Ethical, legal, and regulatory issues in supervision
• The role of evaluation in supervision

📝 Note: CE certificates must clearly indicate ASWB approval and be uploaded to CE Broker, selecting ASWB as the approving body.

To maintain the supervision designation, Rule 4757-9-03 requires all LISWs to complete 30 hours of CE during each two-year license renewal cycle, which must include:

• At least 3 hours in clinical supervision (focused on supervising licensees toward independent licensure)
• At least 3 hours in ethics

Important: Supervision-related CE must be ASWB-approved and directly relevant to clinical supervision (not general workplace or administrative oversight).

Telehealth Certification Institute LLC, #1609, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 05/02/2024 – 05/02/2027.

ASWB CE hours are accepted by the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.

In Ohio, licensed psychologists and independent school psychologists must renew their licenses every two years, with the renewal deadline falling on August 31st of each even-numbered year, as required by Ohio Revised Code §4732.141. During each renewal cycle, licensees must complete a minimum of 23 hours of continuing education (CE) in psychology. This must include at least 4 hours in one or more of the following mandated topics: professional conduct, ethics, or the role of culture and ethnic identity in psychological services such as assessment, consultation, or intervention.

Ohio does not require psychologists to complete supervision-specific continuing education (CE) in order to qualify as a clinical supervisor. However, licensed psychologists must meet the standard CE requirements for license renewal to remain eligible to supervise (Ohio Revised Code §4732-2-01(C)(8)).

Under Ohio Revised Code §4732.141, psychologists in Ohio are required to complete 23 hours of continuing education every two-year renewal cycle, with the CE earning period running through August 31 of each even-numbered year. Within the 23 required hours, at least 4 hours must be in designated ethics-related content, which may include ethics, professional conduct, and/or the role of culture and ethnic identity in service delivery. These four hours may be completed in a single area or divided among the approved topics, as long as the total requirement is met. The remaining CE hours may be earned through any psychology-related educational activities accepted by the Board.

The Ohio State Board of Psychology accepts courses from any provider who is approved by the American Psychological Association.
