LGBTQIA+ Inclusion in Healthcare – Clinical Practice and Ethical Issues
More than 50% of LGBTQIA+ individuals report experiencing some form of healthcare discrimination, which can lead to delays in seeking care, avoidance of medical services, and negative health outcomes.
As healthcare professionals, it is essential that we understand the unique challenges and barriers that LGBTQIA+ patients face in accessing equitable healthcare.
This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools to provide inclusive, affirming, and culturally competent care to LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Participants will learn how to create a safe, inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ clients by addressing key elements such as representation in clinical spaces, respectful communication, and ensuring that medical forms, documentation, and conversations reflect the identities and experiences of LGBTQIA+ individuals. They will dive into ethical considerations that arise when working with LGBTQIA+ clients and learn how to navigate issues such as confidentiality, especially with LGBTQIA+ youth, and the complexities of working with unsupportive families. They will also explore ethical dilemmas involving clients engaged in sex work, polyamorous relationships, or those facing legal challenges.
Participants will also learn how to apply trauma-informed care, which is crucial for LGBTQIA+ clients who have faced stigmatization, discrimination, or rejection. They will explore best practices for improving LGBTQIA+ patient care such as the Trans Resilience Intervention Model (TRIM) and a strengths-based approach to foster resilience in clients.
By the end of this training, you will have gained essential knowledge on ethical considerations, transgender healthcare, and best practices for LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
Enroll today and gain the confidence to deliver compassionate, affirming care that reduces disparities and enhances the well-being of LGBTQIA+ clients.
This is a non-interactive, self-study course.
Instruction consists of 2 hours of video instruction and a post-test.
From the time of registration, you have six months to access the coursework.
