Description

Supervision is only as effective as the relationship that supports it. Without trust, clarity, and skillful communication, even well-intended supervision can lead to resistance, rupture, or stagnation.

Whether you’re a seasoned supervisor or just stepping into the role, this course will help you establish and maintain the kind of supervisory relationships that foster safety, growth, and accountability.

Kristin Ryan, M.S., brings over 30 years of experience as a clinician, supervisor, educator, and trainer to this practical, insight-driven training. Her extensive background in clinical supervision, counselor education, and multidisciplinary mental health practice makes her uniquely qualified to guide clinicians through the nuanced dynamics of supervisory relationships.

With a warm, insightful, and highly pragmatic approach, Kristin teaches clinicians how to engage supervision as a distinct and intentional practice. She shares how to use your own self-awareness, communication, and presence to foster growth while navigating power, conflict, and complexity.

Topics explored in this course include the key qualities of effective supervisors, how to create collaborative supervisory alliances, boundary-setting, managing power and authority, working through resistance, understanding complex processes like transference and countertransference, and strategies for assessing the effectiveness of the supervisory relationship. You'll also learn how to distinguish clinical from administrative supervision and how to approach cultural diversity with respect and openness.

Key Takeaways:

  • Strengthen the supervisory relationship: Learn how to build safety, connection, and clarity in supervision through practical tools and self-awareness.

  • Understand and manage power dynamics: Use your authority constructively to empower supervisees and uphold ethical standards.

  • Navigate resistance and conflict with confidence: Recognize common signs of resistance and respond with curiosity, clarity, and compassion.
