    • OR

    • Have professional experience treating co-occurring disorders plus 3 years of supervising clinicians in a licensed program serving individuals with co-occurring substance use and mental health diagnoses

📄Title 32, § 6214-E. Certified clinical supervisors; qualifications for licensure.

🔁 Ongoing Supervision CE Requirements

Once certified, LCSWs must maintain their license by completing 25 continuing education (CE) hours every two years, including:

  • A minimum of 4 hours in social work ethics

One-Time Training Requirement - Maine law requires all LCSWs to complete a one-time, 12-hour CE in family or intimate partner violence, per Title 32, §7060.

While supervision-specific CE hours are not required for renewal, continuing education in supervision is strongly encouraged to maintain quality and compliance.

⚠️ Pitfalls to Avoid

Even experienced clinicians can make missteps that invalidate supervision hours. Avoid these costly errors:

  • Supervision hours not counting due to incomplete or missing documentation

  • Supervisors failing to meet training or experience requirements before beginning supervision

✅ Tip: Document everything, and ensure both you and your supervisee meet all licensing and training requirements before supervision begins.

  • 30 CE Clinical Supervision Training Bundle

While Maine LCSWs must complete 25 CE hours every two years (including 4 in ethics), there is no supervision-specific CE requirement. That said, our 30 CE Clinical Supervision Training Bundle offers an in-depth, best-practice curriculum to exceed basic renewal needs and support professional development in the supervisory role.

Please Note: This bundle does not include the one-time, 12-hour training required in family or intimate partner violence, which must be completed separately to fulfill Maine licensure requirements.
