The option of receiving mental health services through phone sessions helps clients overcome significant barriers to access. Graduate schools and clinical supervision do a great job preparing behavioral health clinicians to provide services when a client is with them in their office. However, there has been very little training in the ethical and clinical skills of providing behavioral health services when the client and clinician are not in the same location. This course extensively covers the ethical and clinical skills of providing phone sessions to your clients. The competencies of setting up the technology, the clinical setting, preparing the client, responding to technical issues, technology options, how to effectively use technology, communication skills specifically for phone sessions, and documentation are all covered in this course. Sample calls are provided that cover screening for fit, a client’s first session, and a crisis call with an established client.

- Demonstrate how to provide an effective phone therapy session from start to finish.
- Demonstrate how to prepare the client for phone therapy and address technological challenges and telehealth session etiquette.
