Engaging BIPOC Communities Effectively Using Telehealth, Extended Content
As the use of telehealth continues to rise, it’s essential for clinicians to develop culturally sensitive approaches that meet the unique needs of diverse communities, particularly those who may face additional barriers to accessing quality mental health care.
This comprehensive training is designed to enhance your understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by clients who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) when accessing behavioral health services through telehealth.
Participants will join Dr. Ritchie Rubio and learn how to build trust with BIPOC clients by understanding the historical and systemic factors that impact the relationship between these communities and the healthcare system. They will explore practical ways to adapt mental health interventions to fit the cultural backgrounds of their clients, using strategies like incorporating culturally relevant symbols, language, stories, traditions, and healing practices into sessions.
A key focus of the training is addressing racial trauma using telehealth, with evidence-based practices (EBPs) that include mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and narrative therapies tailored to the client’s cultural background. Participants will explore the best practices for using digital tools and apps to enhance telemental health services for BIPOC clients to ensure that therapy remains accessible and effective despite the digital divide. They will learn to adapt their approach based on clients’ technical limitations and preferences, whether through video, phone, or flexible session formats.
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the skills needed to engage BIPOC clients and deliver more equitable, personalized mental health care via telehealth, providing culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care that honors their unique experiences.
Enroll today and empower your practice to help bridge gaps in care for BIPOC communities in a virtual setting.
This is a non-interactive self-study course and consists of 2.5 hours of video training, course slides and resources.
From the time of registration, you have six months to access the coursework.

- Identify and describe at least two strategies to increase BIPOC clients’ access and engagement to behavioral telehealth.
- Construct and organize a tentative plan with at least two action steps on how to use telehealth tools to help address racial trauma and other cultural needs that are unique to BIPOC clients.
