Models of Clinical Supervision
Enroll in the Online self-Study and complete training on your own schedule.
1.5 CE Credits available for behavioral health clinicians
Just as it is important for clinicians to have a theory or conceptual framework to guide their work with clients, it is essential for supervisors to have a framework for working with supervisees. Gone are the days (hopefully) when supervision consisted solely of a supervisee telling the supervisor about a client, and the supervisor saying, “OK, so here is what I would do with this client if I were you….”.
We now recognize that supervision is a unique activity and that it is important to have a conceptual framework through which to work with supervisees. In this course, new and experienced supervisors will learn about the most commonly-used supervision models and how they are implemented, as well as some of the newer models that have been developed.
Participants in this course should leave with an understanding of the major categories of clinical supervision models and examples of specific models from each category. In addition, the presenter will discuss recent research on supervision models.
Participants will consider their own personal supervision style and which model(s) fit best in their work with supervisees. Finally, the importance of supervision context, format, and multicultural considerations will be addressed.
