As telehealth has made its way into medical practices, schools have begun seeing the value of offering telehealth to their students, faculty, and staff. Global Partnership for Telehealth (GPT) has worked in the telehealth space since the early 2000’s and began working with public schools in Georgia in 2009. Since the opening of the very first Georgia School-Based Telehealth Center (SBTC), GPT now assists with more than 130 SBTCs in the Southeast. Throughout these years, GPT has developed a solid model for providing comprehensive telehealth service including primary care, specialty care, and mental health care.
During this course, participants learn how to develop, implement, and manage a successful SBTC with an emphasis on behavioral health. Participants are presented with various helpful tips and best practices for launching a successful School-Based Telemental Health Program. Participants leave with a foundation of knowledge to take back to their communities and schools.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the various components of a successful and high-quality school-based telemental health program.
- Analyze the use case for implementing a school-based telemental health program.

This is a non-interactive self-study course.

Sherrie Williams, LCSW is the Chief of Operations of the Georgia-based, Global Partnership for Telehealth (GPT). As a non-profit, GPT is known as one of the lowest cost, highest quality, and most experienced telehealth networks in the country. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from rural South Georgia, Sherrie stumbled into telehealth as she struggled to match her clients with needed medical and mental health resources. She was instrumental in developing and implementing the very first school-based telehealth program in Georgia. The model she created is still being used today across 100’s of school programs. After experiencing the true value of telehealth, Sherrie soon left the social work profession to pursue a career in telehealth full-time. She began working with GPT in 2012.
In addition to her work at GPT, Sherrie serves on several boards including the Technology Association of Georgia-Health Division (Advisory Board); Georgia Rural Health Association (Board member); College of Coastal Georgia’s Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics degree program (Advisory Board); Georgia’s HOSA - Future Health Professionals program (Advisory Board).
