Psychosocial Aspects of a Pandemic Virus 6-hr continuing education course was inspired by the current pandemic and over 30 years of experience as a mental health and rehabilitation practitioner, counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and researcher. The field of psychology and counseling must cultivate new research and training opportunities for mental health and allied helping professionals to work across all age groups and cultures during phases of a pandemic disaster. The COVID-19 pandemic and its mutant variants have increased the clinically significant symptoms related to anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, and substance use disorders. The foundations of this course addresses issues related to the medical, physical, mental, behavioral, and psychosocial health needs of persons living through phases of a pandemic virus. In addition to 5 hours of instruction by video, implications for current research and future resources are offered through a 142-page handbook available for webinar participants.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify children, adolescents, adults, and families that are at low, moderate, and high risk for mental, behavioral, and psychosocial health concerns related to a pandemic virus with intention of providing therapeutic services.
  • Explore the unique grief, loss, and psychosocial experiences associated with living through phases of a pandemic virus.
  • Explore low, moderate, and high risk and resiliency factors that occur during a pandemic virus that will be illustrated through the author’s original Pandemic Risk and Resiliency Continuum (PRRC) theoretical model.
  • Illustrate stages of adjustment and adaptation during phases of a pandemic virus and describe the impact on the individual’s mental, behavioral, and psychosocial functioning.

This is a non-interactive self-study course.

Instruction consists of 6 hours of video instruction and a post-test.

Instructor

Mark A. Stebnicki, Ph.D., LCMHC, DCMHS, CRC, CMCC is Professor Emeritus and former Coordinator of the Military and Trauma Counseling (MTC) Certificate Program which he developed in 2015 in the Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation at East Carolina University. Dr. Stebnicki also developed the national Clinical Military Counseling Certificate (CMCC); a 12 hr CE program offered nationally through the Telehealth Certificate Institute. Dr. Stebnicki has been a counselor educator, researcher, practitioner with over 30 years’ experience in rehabilitation and mental health. He has practiced and published in the areas related to stress, traumatic stress, disaster mental health response, and the psychosocial aspects of chronic illness and disability. His primary focus is working with military service members, veterans, veterans with disabilities, and military families. Dr. Stebnicki has published 10 professional textbooks most recently he published two books in 2021 through the American Counseling Association/Wiley Publishing titled: Clinical Military Counseling: Guidelines for Practice and Counseling Practice During Phases of a Pandemic Virus. He also has published 40 journal articles and book chapters, and has provided over 100 presentations nationally, regionally, and statewide. He has served on many statewide and national professional counseling boards.

How to Complete the Course and Earn Your Certificate

To receive your certificate of completion you must complete the course in its entirety.

To complete an Online Self Study Course, one must register, log in, select the My Courses option from the menu items, click the Course Title, complete all of the modules, complete and pass the post-test(s), and complete the course evaluation.

A grade of at least 80% or more is required to pass the post-test. Retaking the post-test is possible until the participant is able to pass the test.

Psychologists and other professionals seeking CE credit through our approval with the American Psychological Association are asked but not required to complete the course evaluation before obtaining their certificate of completion, however passing a post-test for online self-study courses, and submitting one's attendance for live on-site and live webinars is required.

You can download or print your certificate of completion by logging into your account, navigating to the course by selecting the My Courses option from the menu items, clicking the Course Title, scrolling to the Certificate of Completion section, and clicking on the Certificate of Completion link to either download it or print it.

Participants may request a printed version of their certificate of completion to be delivered by mail. A shipping/handling fee of $6.95 will be charged per request. Shipping internationally may require an additional charge.
