It is not uncommon for individuals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to have strong, aversive reactions to situations that occur in everyday life.
If we understand OCD as an emotional disorder, then we should consider interventions that have demonstrated efficacy with other disorders with similar underlying mechanisms, such as generalized anxiety and panic disorders. Transdiagnostic interventions, such as exposure therapy, that approach, rather than avoid, emotion increase emotional tolerance and decrease the drive to use OCD rituals and behaviors as a means to manage emotional distress.
This online course explores the rationale and application of evidence-based emotion exposure interventions for OCD treatment. Led by Dr. Melanie Smith, a leading expert in OCD and anxiety disorders, participants will learn how to develop individualized exposure hierarchies, recognize and differentiate OCD symptoms based on DSM-5 criteria, and implement cognitive flexibility strategies to help clients manage and reduce their anxiety.
This course is your chance to enhance your ability to support OCD clients in overcoming their fears and improving their quality of life.
