Dr. Christine Brown Richards, a seasoned educator, counselor, and school administrator, brings decades of experience and a heart for youth advocacy to this training. With advanced degrees in educational leadership and a commitment to community-based support, Dr. Richards equips clinicians with the insight needed to respond meaningfully to the emotional needs of students.
Her approach combines evidence-based theory with hands-on, real-world applications. Through practical examples, engaging instruction, and a Whole Child lens, she empowers participants to confidently apply what they learn in their daily practice.
This course explores the core elements of social-emotional learning (SEL), including the five major areas of student need: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. It also examines how the Whole Child approach and family-school-community collaboration can be harnessed to support student growth amid post-pandemic challenges.

Instructor
Dr. Christine Brown Richards, EdD, is an educator, counselor, facilitator, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur dedicated to leadership, learning, and community impact. A Rochester native, she holds degrees from Central State University, the University of Rochester, SUNY Brockport, and St. John Fisher College, where she earned her Doctorate in Executive Leadership.
Dr. Richards serves as Assistant Principal with Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES, Vice President of the Gates Chili Central School District Board of Education, and an adjunct professor at Monroe Community College. She is active in several professional and civic organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Black Women’s Leadership Forum, and the Greater Rochester MLK Commission.
As co-founder of Beautiful Shades of Brown and GirlTrek ROC!, and COO of China Eyes Productions, Dr. Richards champions youth mentorship, women’s health, and empowerment. Passionate about bringing people together through learning and service, she lives by the philosophy: “You’re never too old to learn.”
