implementation and management of teletherapy services on college campuses

As colleges continue to face surging mental health needs among students, the implementation of teletherapy services has emerged as a critical—yet complex—solution. This course provides a clear roadmap for behavioral health professionals who are navigating the logistics, ethics, and practical decisions of launching and managing virtual care on campus.

Whether you're initiating services from scratch or refining an existing program, this self-paced course equips you with actionable tools and strategies to lead your team with clarity, confidence, and compliance.

Tiffany Howard, LPC, NCC, BC-TMH, brings both clinical expertise and hands-on leadership experience to this course. As Coordinator of Web-based Services at a large university, she has overseen the full implementation of Therapy Assistance Online (TAO) and supported providers through every stage of teletherapy program development. Her dual role as a clinician and administrator uniquely positions her to guide others through the decision-making, planning, and management process.

Tiffany’s approach is grounded in real-world application and designed for immediate use. She presents the course material through a practical, problem-solving lens, walking participants step-by-step through common barriers and proven solutions in the college counseling context.

Topics include how to assess your institution’s readiness, evaluate teletherapy platforms, develop staffing and supervision plans, draft informed consent and policies, manage risk and crisis protocols, and effectively communicate with campus partners. You'll also learn how to build a robust implementation and training plan for both staff and students, as well as how to maintain service quality through effective post-launch management.

Key Takeaways:

  • Strategic Staffing Decisions: Gain clarity on who should provide teletherapy services and how to support them with adequate training and supervision.

  • Implementation Blueprint: Learn a replicable, step-by-step process for designing and rolling out a successful teletherapy program.
